Uber Plans to Launch Fly-Sharing by 2023

Uber Technologies Inc. is partnering with Hyundai Motor Co. on a flying car, and is planning to show off a full-scale model of the vehicle this week on the CES floor in Las Vegas.

Uber’s ambitious plans to launch an urban air taxi service just got a lift. Uber said it would join forces with Joby Aviation, a California-based aerospace company. Joby Aviation has been working on electric aviation for over a decade. Joby is the first company to commit to Uber’s aggressive timetable to launch its flying taxi service by 2023. This is going to be a game changer in the next few years.

As per Uber the price point could be in line with the Uber X fare when it comes to a per seat basis service. In the initial days it could be high but after few months it may reach a stage of Uber X level in terms of pricing. The regulations related to air taxi is pretty complex and that could be challenging for Uber and some of the other companies.

The agreement between Uber and Hyundai was announced at the Consumer Electronics technology show in Las Vegas. Uber’s short term goal is to have flying taxis deployed in a few major world cities by 2023.

Uber has announced that it has chosen Melbourne, Australia, in addition to Dallas and Los Angeles in the United States, to become the first cities to offer Uber Air flights.
