“Atma Nirbhar Bharat”? Give me a break!!!

Last month when PM Modi gave a clarion call for the Atma Nirbhar Bharat, the entire nation went ahead praising him like anything. But for many people planning to start a digital business, there are a lot of bad news for them in the last few weeks.

There might have been a lot of things that have happened for the MSMEs but not much for individuals who want to start their digital business. For many of those individuals, there have been lots of taxes that were there earlier and some other added recently as well. So even when you want to buy a domain to start your digital identity or want to run an advertisement in Facebook to promote your business you need to pay 18% tax irrespective of the amount you spend.

Below is the snapshot while buying domain from google domains in April and June 2020. As you can see in April 2020 there was no tax while purchasing a domain and after june there is a tax of 18%. For the individuals who are just starting their domain and trying to create their digital presence this amount may be large enough. At a time when everyone is expecting relief from government, there is no relief for the digital entrepreneurs.

No Tax on Buying Domains till April

Now 18% Tax while buying Domain

Also when it comes to placing advertisements in facebook as well, there is a tax of 18% on top of the amount. What ever low may be the amount the 18% tax would always be there. Though this tax was there earlier as well, but if there is anything government can do to reduce the burden on the young entrepreneurs who are not only in the digital field but also any business may need to give advertisements in Facebook to target local customers.

It’s high time these taxes should be dropped and the atmanirbhar bharat we are proudly presenting should be enforced in more pragmatic manner.
